Don't
be too ambitious! As you go along you will have plenty of time to
show what is
important.
Be prepared to hear your wife say: "Darling, you are spending too
much time on the computer".
Don't change the traditional format too much. Take your time and do
it in dribbles.
Work on one or two issue in advance — it will make your job a whole
lot easier.
If you have Microsoft Publisher on your
machine, good. If not, get it.
Utilize articles from other user groups that are available from
APCUG monthly.
Try to be versatile — not everything has to be computer related.
Remember who your readers are!
Don't be your own proofreader. Let someone check everything before
going to the printer.
Don't hesitate to write a product review or an article, once in a
while. Our members love you for it.
Conduct a publishing SIG from time to time.
It sharpens your mind.
Help with Club promotional ideas and produce the required flyer,
brochure, ad or other items.
Provide copy of text for upcoming meetings
to our webmaster.
Get digital pictures from club meetings for
insertion in newsmagazine.
Stimulate interest in club activities by putting "Notes from the
Editor" into the publication.
Get text from president for inclusion in each issue's President's
Message at the beginning of the month.
Make sure that the calendar dates and
announcements are correct.
Ask members at meetings for input and other
ideas.
Get names of new members from membership chair person for inclusion
in newsmagazine.
Get names of contributing members of cookies for meeting breaks for
inclusion in newsmagazine.
Upon making corrections to complete edition, print a set of master
pages, and organize them into printers spreads.
Deliver the new issue to printer.
Alert the assembly team by E-mail of the upcoming assembly party at
the Community Center.
Pick up printed flat sheets from printer.
On day of assembly bring the heavy load and electric stapler to
Community Center.
Feed collated and folded sheets into stapler and pass finished
product on to other members who will close each issue with a strip
of scotch tape and attach the pre-printed address labels to back
cover.
Deliver approximately 24 copies to treasurer for attachment to
advertising invoices.
Drop off promotional copies at strategic places in town.
Prepare address labels for sending copies to contributing people and
vendors.
Retain a bunch of extra copies for club meetings.
Retain extra copies for future references and archive.
Take a day of rest and start the above routine all over again.
