Keeping Old Laptops Out of Landfills While Helping Others
Sam Wexler, APCUG Advisor
President, Valencia Falls Computer Club
swexler@apcug.net

One of my new projects is to find ways to help keep old laptops out of landfills by refurbishing them and then giving them to people like kids in a disadvantaged high school in the South Bronx, wounded soldiers at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington or needy seniors in South Florida. I am compiling information on how some User Groups are doing this work, and then putting it out for the rest of the world to see in the hope of attracting others and thus grow the effort. Itís a win-win for everyone.

If you are working on a project like this, you can write something that can be added to an APCUG database and maybe also win a Jerry Award for your User Group. As a possible guide, you may want to look what last yearís winner did by accessing http://www.ntpcug.org/JerryAwardApplication/index.html. Also please send me any information about others you may know who are doing this work.
